Roaming, Fearing by James Mulligan
a strange fear
To roam the streets beyond
Midnight, with recklessness
To press the pedal further down
Than could ever be excused
To know not to be entirely drunk
Then order just one more
To leap in front of the train
Looking into the drivers eyes
And to dance where the ice
Is delicate, and be calm
Is to know sunset is coming
To believe today is the reason
Why
The clouds are blackening as I speak
I cannot see them, but I sense the
Darkness; bring me solace woman
You don't know how but you try
Ugly is every scene I've painted
So as not to destroy today
On I drive consumed, guilt
And despair suffocating me
When I was a child I was afraid
Of everything. Now even moreso.
I am afraid.
Love will come to you soon
Who could not love you
Who wouldn't
Well because you are so
And funny, sometimes
So very caring, ah,
Who could not love you
Love - not my type but
I am funny like that

Thunder does not come today

It seems rotten
the way you grab a notebook
write into it, then get another
somehow you never finish
what's funny is your determination
a marathon runner giving it all on the first hundred meters
as if time would drag itself back to the previous race

you'd come in first, yes...
but lets face it
no one is judging
there's not a single eye on the hundred meter mark
you have to face it, kid
nobody gets a prize
and nobody ever gets to win.
